Superficial chemical peels are used as part of maintenance skincare routine to enhance the look, feel and texture of the skin. Superficial chemical peels are appropriate for all skin types. This treatment uses different chemical solutions or a combination of chemical solutions depending on the skin issue your skincare provider is working with you to correct.

At a consultation for a chemical peel, one of our experienced skin care experts will discuss your skincare goals, your current skincare regimen and your current skin issues to determine if a series of chemical peels are right for you and your skin. Often times Vectra 3Dimaging is performed to allow you and your skincare expert to view in 3D the sun damage, broken capillaries and overall appearance of your skin. This serves as a baseline. After completing a series of chemical peel treatments together with a home regimen we can evaluate improvements in the quality of your skin.

Your skin care expert will clean your face and prepare the chemical solutions for application. Your provider will apply one to several layers of the chemical solution to your face. Often times a fan is used to cool the face and decrease the odor from the chemical interaction with the skin cells.

During the superficial chemical peel you may feel stinging sensation. After the treatment, you may expect your skin to be red and shiny for one to 48 hours. Your face may feel warm like a sunburn. Your skin will begin to peel in 2-3 days and continue for 4-5 days. Do not pick at the peeling skin or aggressively exfoliate. You should not use products containing Retin-A® or Glycolic acid for three days following the treatment. You should avoid the gym, saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours.

Superficial chemical peels remove the dead and dull surface layers of the skin, stimulating an increase in collagen production and rejuvenation. Many patients see improvements in the tone, texture, and color of treated areas when a series of treatments are performed. Superficial chemical peels can also improve oily or dull skin, enlarged pores, clogged pores, fine lines and mild complexion problems.

Complications from superficial chemical peels are extremely rare, but could include skin infections, cold sores, allergic reactions, undesirable color changes and scarring
