Lower FaceLift

ARE YOU CONSIDERING A FACELIFT?

Trust the excellence and care of Harvard Trained Plastic Surgeon Dr. Christopher T. Maloney Jr. to provide exceptional results.

Dr. Maloney, might recommend a facelift if you have signs of aging in your face. A facelift can correct sagging jowls and loose skin of the face, restoring your youthful appearance. Facelift and facial rejuvenation procedures are Dr. Maloney’s specialty. Some plastic surgeons perform “everything”, whereas Dr. Maloney has become highly specialized and sought out for his beautiful and natural facial rejuvenation results.

Dr. Maloney performs three to four face lifts a week, roughly 175 face lift procedures a year. This is a significantly higher number than an average plastic surgeon who might perform one to two a month because they also perform body, breast, and nose procedures. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Maloney has developed a technique to minimize recovery time, minimize the risks and optimize results. Most of the time our procedures can be performed safely and pain free without the need for general anesthesia.

WHAT ARE FACELIFTS & WHEN ARE THEY RECOMMENDED?

What is a facelift

A facelift is a plastic surgery procedure during which a plastic surgeon repositions or removes excess skin, muscle, and fat to make the face appear tighter and younger. Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Maloney, might recommend surgery if you have:

  • Sagging or relaxed skin on your face.
  • Drooping skin, called jowls, on your cheeks or jaws.
  • A double chin, or loose skin and extra fat in the neck.

When is a facelift recommended

A facelift is considered a cosmetic, restorative surgery. It won’t change your features or the overall appearance of your face or prevent further signs of aging. They also won’t treat other signs of aging like fine lines, sun damage, and skin imperfections. Dr. Maloney and his team can discuss other plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures that can address those issues.

What are the benefits and risks of a facelift?

Benefits of a facelift

Our clients have reported many benefits after getting a facelift: a more youthful appearance, fewer signs of aging, improved confidence and self-esteem, reduced or eliminated jowls, and reduced or eliminated excess skin around the neck and chin.

Risks of a facelift

As with any plastic surgery procedure, a facelift does have risks. Dr. Maloney and his team will go over all of these risks with you at both of your consultations and again on the day of your procedure. The risks are rare, but might include:

  • Unsatisfactory result/ need for additional surgery
  • Infection
  • Wound healing issues
  • Hematomas
  • Changes in skin sensation or numbness
  • Facial nerve injury
  • Temporary or permanent hair loss at the incision sites
  • Scarring
  • Prolonged swelling

Meet Dr Maloney

Dr. Maloney is a Harvard trained, board certified plastic surgeon who returned to his home town of Tucson, AZ to open Maloney Plastic Surgery in 2002.

Preparing for your surgical procedure

Depending on the type of procedure you’re undergoing, your health, and the extent of the procedure, it will be done either in our office or at an outpatient surgery center. Our team will go over the surgical fees, scheduling dates, and financing options. Here’s a look at your pre- and post-surgery schedule:

Three weeks pre-surgery

If you smoke, you need to stop smoking. You should also stop taking aspirin and other blood thinning medications. You will come in for another consultation with our team, and you may be given prescriptions to fill before the plastic surgery procedure. We will need to review any medications, supplements, and vitamins you’re currently taking.

24 hours before surgery

Confirm you have picked up all of your prescribed prescriptions for surgery. Get a good night’s sleep. Wash your face and hair with an antimicrobial soap.

Day of surgery

Make sure you have a reliable ride to and from the procedure. Take any prescribed pain medications as directed in your pre-op instructions. Do not wear lotions, deodorant, makeup, jewelry, or nail polish. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to take off and put on.

Dr. Maloney will confirm the surgical plan with you just before surgery and answer any remaining questions. He will also confirm your cellular phone number and send you a text so you have his personal cell phone number which you may use for any questions or concerns after hours. This phone number will be listed on the front page of your post-operative instructions sheet. He will also send you a text or call you from his personal cellular phone the night of surgery to check on you.

24 hours post-surgery

Someone will need to stay with you for the first 24 hours post-surgery. You will also need a ride to our office the day after surgery (or Monday if surgery is on a Friday) to have our team check your incisions and have your surgical drain tube removed.

One to three weeks post-surgery

You will need to take 10 days to three weeks off work depending on the type of work you perform. Most people are back to 100% in about 3 months. Plan accordingly for large events such as weddings or big vacations. Sleep with your head elevated for the first few days to reduce bruising and swelling. Stay hydrated and take an over the counter stool softener to prevent constipation.
