What is Avéli® and when is it recommended?

What is Avéli®?

Avéli® is an FDA-approved cellulite treatment option that is minimally invasive, low-risk, and offers amazing results. It is the only cellulite treatment option that gets to the root of the dimpling effect that occurs under the skin. Avéli® uses a highly specialized, innovative device to sever the delta around the dimples in your skin. This results in a smoother appearance and firmer, younger-looking skin. Avéli® can be used on your hips, thighs, butt, and abdomen to provide long-term cellulite reduction. What makes Avéli® different from other treatments for cellulite is its precision. We can achieve exceptionally precise results while still using a minimally invasive procedure. It also causes far less bruising and a much lower risk of side effects or complications.

When Should You Consider a Cellulite Reduction Treatment?

Avéli® works best for people who have dimpled cellulite rather than rolling or wavy pockets of fat. The best candidates for Avéli® for cellulite reduction are ones who are at a healthy weight, have tight and elastic skin, and who are 21–55 years old. People who have mild to moderate skin laxity won’t see the same level of success with Avéli® and should consider another type of cellulite treatment.

Benefits and Risks of Treatment for Cellulite with Avéli®

Most patients don’t have any negative side effects after cellulite treatment with Avéli®. You may experience skin irritation, bruising, swelling, tenderness, redness, and hyperpigmentation at the treatment area, but these side effects are mild and will disappear within a week or two. The biggest benefits of cellulite treatment are:

  • Smoother, tauter, and younger-looking skin
  • Reduced skin dimpling
  • Improved circulation and blood flow
  • More toned looking skin
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem

Meet Dr Maloney

Dr. Maloney is a Harvard trained, board certified plastic surgeon who returned to his home town of Tucson, AZ to open Maloney Plastic Surgery in 2002.

Our Cellulite Reduction Treatment Procedure

When you arrive for cellulite treatment with Avéli®, we will use a long, thin instrument to perform the procedure. The device is equipped with a light and a retractable blade, which looks like a hook. You will be under local anesthesia during the procedure, and most procedures only take about an hour and only require one treatment session. We will slip the device underneath your skin, using a 2mm incision. The device pulls at and cuts the septa bands that create cellulite dimples. After all the bands are cut, we will move to a different area and make a new incision. In general, most patients have 3-6 incisions in each cellulite treatment area.

When the procedure is complete, you may receive dissolvable stitches or just a bandage. You should not feel anything other than mild pressure and tugging during the procedure. After the procedure, you may have swelling, bruising, and mild pain. Within three or four weeks, you should start to see positive results from the procedure.

How to Prepare for Avéli®

We will give you specific instructions for preparing for Avéli®. In general, you will want to be prepared for some bruising and pain after the procedure, and the fact that results can vary from patient to patient. We may ask you to stop smoking six weeks before your treatment and avoid taking blood thinners or NSAIDs before your treatment.

What Results Can I Expect from Avéli®?

Avéli® is considered the ‘gold standard’ cellulite treatment. Though it has only been in use since 2021, it has shown remarkable results and has proven that the results last. Most patients have results that last for years, and some say that their cellulite has still not returned in the treated areas. Around 80% of patients had significant improvement in cellulite within three months after their treatment. You may feel tender after the procedure, but you should be able to return to your regular activities within 24 hours. Your incisions will heal within days, but you should not go swimming, take a bath, or use a hot tub for the first week after your procedure. Bruising and discoloration may last up to two weeks. You may also need to wear a compression garment for a week or so.
