What is 3D Imaging for Plastic Surgery?

Our 3D imaging technology allows us to create a detailed, accurate 3D model of your face and/or body. We begin by using multiple cameras to take images of your face and/or body from different angles. The computer program then compiles these images into a composite and digitally reconstructs them to create a 3D model. Dr. Maloney can adjust this model as needed to simulate the results of your cosmetic procedure or to show you the different surgical options available to you. We can also use it to project potential outcomes or show you different stages of the healing process.

Benefits of Using 3D Imaging During Cosmetic Surgery Consultations and Planning

Our surgical 3D imaging options allow you to better evaluate the potential results of your cosmetic surgery. We will use this advanced technology to create a realistic, 3D model of your face and/or body. We can adjust the image step-by-step to show you each stage of your treatment process, or to help you visualize different surgical treatment options. Some of the biggest benefits of 3D imaging technology for plastic surgery are:

  • Better understanding of the potential results of your cosmetic surgery
  • Greater clarity as to the way certain adjustments to the surgical process will affect your outcome
  • Guidance in making key decisions about your procedure, such as what size breast implants to use or how to approach your rhinoplasty
  • Improved communication with Dr. Maloney and our team
  • More realistic expectations for your procedure
  • Ability to make a more informed decision about what will work for you
  • Better surgical planning and a greater understanding of your unique anatomy
  • Potential for enhanced surgical precision and more optimal results

What to Expect During a 3D Imaging Session

Before your session, Dr. Maloney and our team will go over exactly what to expect, step-by-step, to ensure your comfort. We will go over your aesthetic goals and medical history and discuss the procedures you are considering. We will then have you remove certain articles of clothing and stand in front of a special screen. A 3D camera will take multiple photographs simultaneously from different angles. These images will then be sent to our specialized computer software, where they will be compiled into a three-dimensional virtual model of your body and/or face. We will adjust the images according to your goals, showing you the potential results according to different decisions you will make about the size, shape, and position of certain elements and procedures. When you are happy with the projection, we will use it to create your surgical plan.

VISIA® 3D Imaging

VISIA® allows us to capture high-quality, precise images of your face so that we can assess the condition of your skin, evaluate hidden issues under the skin, and better plan your facial treatment or laser resurfacing procedure. You will place your chin on the comfortable chin rest while the camera rotates, taking hundreds of photos of your face from every angle. These images are sent to our VISIA® software, which uses the latest AI tools to complete highly detailed and complex skin analyses. We can use VISIA® to identify and plan the treatment of:

  • Age spots and sun spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin texture or coloring
  • Redness or Rosacea
  • UV skin damage
  • Porphyrins
  • Hyperpigmentation and inflammation
  • Other skin and face concerns

VECTRA® 3D Imaging

VECTRA® 3D imaging uses three high resolution cameras to capture detailed images from multiple angles. The innovative design of these cameras allows them to create a panoramic or 360-degree image of your face and/or body. These images can be used with VECTRA® software, including Face Sculptor®, Skin Analysis Sculptor, RBX® image processing, VECTRA® Capture Module and 3D Analysis Module, Mirror® PhotoFile®, and Mirror® PhotoTools®. VECTRA® allows us to:

  • Analyze skin components and see under the surface of your skin to plan facial rejuvenation treatments
  • Create detailed facial diagrams with precise measurements
  • Go over the details of your treatment plan so that you understand what to expect
  • Help you explore different approaches and options
  • Explore complementary procedures that will further enhance your results
  • Plan facial and body contouring procedures and determine proper treatment areas and placement
  • Determine the best treatment approach and plan for reaching your goals
  • Print detailed photos for you to take home if you need more time to make your decision
