There are lots of excellent reasons to travel abroad: To experience other cultures, meet new people, and grow closer to your traveling companions. But having cosmetic procedures is not one of them. Although you may be tempted by a cheap price tag, ultimately, you’ll get what you pay for. Remember that your health and safety are more important than cheap Botox. Do yourself a favor, and see a qualified medical spa provider in the U.S.
You’ll risk being treated by unqualified providers.
One of the reasons why overseas “clinics” are so inexpensive is because many of the providers are unqualified. In other words, you can’t necessarily trust that an overseas provider is actually trained as a nurse, doctor, or even an esthetician. Regulations are far greater in the U.S. in order to protect patient safety. An unqualified provider can put your health at risk, as botched cosmetic injectables can lead to serious complications. As an example, some people have permanently lost their vision when non-physicians improperly injected dermal fillers. It’s possible for these untrained providers to inject the fillers into a blood vessel, causing the filler material to migrate to the eye.
You’ll risk being treated with products not approved in the U.S.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains strict regulations over medical products like Botox and dermal fillers. Unfortunately, there are no such assurances of safety if you travel abroad for cosmetic injectables. It’s not unheard of for patients to be injected with illegal or counterfeit products that can cause severe reactions. These reactions can include intense pain, hardening of the tissue under the skin, and rejection of the filler material by the body.
