Get to Know the Patient Experience of Getting a Facelift

facelift is an excellent opportunity to turn back the clock and lift years of wrinkles and sagging skin off your face. It has become a relatively simple procedure that can be performed in your plastic surgeon’s office under local sedation, meaning you don’t have to go to sleep anymore. Read on to get a better idea of the patient’s side of receiving a facelift.

Consultation

The consultation is one of the most important aspects of any successful plastic surgery procedure. This is the opportunity to ask your surgeon all questions and concerns you may have. Your surgeon will examine you and let you know what a face lift procedure can accomplish for you and your face. You can also receive a realistic vision—using computer imaging—of how your facelift results will look.

Anesthesia

Depending on the type of anesthesia you and your surgeon agree upon for your face lift procedure, you may receive anesthesia that makes you fall asleep or numbs your face and the incision areas. Both options are safe and will be discussed between you and the surgeon well before the surgery date.

Incisions

Incisions are typically made under the chin and around the ears. These locations allow your surgeon to lift sagging skin, tighten your neck and the neck bands, remove or reposition fat, and add volume if   needed. These incisions tend to heal very well and can easily be hidden early on after surgery for a quick and easy recovery.

Recovery

Your recovery should be relatively simple and painless as long as you follow your surgeon’s instructions. You will have a compression bandage wrapped around your face to minimize swelling and help hold dressings in place for 24 hours. You will also receive pain medications to reduce any discomfort over the following days after the procedure. Most patients only require this for 1-3 days. Depending on the type of work you preform, it is typically recommend to take about 10-14 days off. You should avoid exercise for roughly 3 weeks. It will be about 3 weeks before you are feeling really great and about 8-10 weeks before you are 100% back to your “normal self”.

Results

You can expect to see amazing results within a few days. Once the swelling has receded and the incisions have healed, you will look and feel years younger.
