Whether you want to speed up your morning routine or simply like feeling put together all the time, permanent makeup puts time back in your schedule and helps you look and feel your best. At Maloney Plastic Surgery, our skin care specialists use the latest techniques in tattoo and ink technology to give our patients a natural, glowing look. Are you interested in how permanent makeup works? Here are the facts you need to know.ย
Permanent makeup is only for certain areas of the face.ย
Permanent makeup can be used on the eyebrows, lash line, and lips. Some patients get all of those areas done, while some select just one or two. Permanent makeup does not replace the use of foundation, highlighter, blush, mascara, or eyeshadow. Some people find that their permanent makeup gives them enough of a made-up appearance to wear alone, while other people supplement their permanent makeup with additional products.ย
A skin care specialist will help you choose the best colors.ย
During a consultation for permanent makeup, an experienced skin technician will explain the treatment process to you and help you select the best ink colors to achieve your goals for your makeup preferences and for your skin tone. Although you will need touch-ups of your permanent makeup over time, your colors will last a long time. So, youโll want to be sure youโre happy with your selections. During your consultation, you will also be told how to prepare for your permanent makeup. You may need to stop treatment with Retin-A, blood thinners, Latisse, and skin brightening creams three weeks prior to permanent makeup application.ย
Permanent makeup is performed through micropigmentation.ย
In the micropigmentation process, a needle is used to inject the ink into the skin, in a process similar to tattooing. You will receive a local anesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. Expect some swelling for two to five days after the treatment. The ink will appear dark right after the procedure and will slowly fade during the first week, when your final results will be visible.ย
