Here’s a brief overview of what you should know about the different types of breast implants.
Silicone
Silicone implants consist of a silicone shell pre-filled with a silicone gel that won’t leak or travel if the implant ruptures, which is itself uncommon. The overwhelming majority of patients choose the silicone gel more closely mimics breast tissue, and they give a soft and natural look and feel. The silicone gel implants have options in terms of the consistency/ “thickness” of the gel. The traditional Inspira gel is the most popular followed by the highly-cohesive gel which is the implant often referred to as the “gummy bear”.
Saline
If your goal is a rounder, fuller appearance, saline implants are may be ideal for you. These implants are placed into the body unfilled and then injected with saline solution to the appropriate volume. Unlike silicone, saline implants feel more firm and you can feel the edge of the implant.
Implant Sizes
Another important factor to think about is implant size. Most patients will come into their breast augmentation consults with a cup size in mind. However, your surgeon will be thinking more about the appropriate width and height of the implants for your natural breast and body shape. Thus, you may end up with a cup size that’s different from your initial goal but that is more fitting for your overall silhouette.
