Taking good care of your skin and overall health can help delay the signs of aging, such wrinkles and sagging skin. However, the aging process will inevitably make itself known sooner or later. If you’ve reached the point at which minimally invasive treatments aren’t sufficient to help you achieve your aesthetic goals, it may be time to start thinking about getting a facelift.
What problems can a facelift correct?
A facelift can correct many of the undesirable signs of aging. These include sagging tissues and skin of the cheeks, the development of jowls in the lower jawline, and the excess skin in the neck.
Is a facelift right for me?
A facelift may be right for you if you have any of the problems that can be corrected with the surgery. In addition, a plastic surgeon should carefully evaluate your health history to determine if it’s safe for you to have the procedure. You should fully disclose your medications and supplements, as well as any medical conditions you have. The surgeon will also ask whether you smoke or drink, and whether you’ve previously had surgery. Some patients may be asked to get medical clearance from their primary care physicians.
How long is the recovery?
Every patient heals differently. Your recovery may depend on your overall health and how well you follow your discharge instructions. Never hesitate to call the plastic surgery office if you have questions about your post-surgical instructions or if you think you may be experiencing a complication. In general, most patients can resume light activities and can return to work in about two weeks. You may be able to resume strenuous exercise in about six to eight weeks.
