Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

What to Expect When Getting Breast Lift Surgery

If you are unhappy with the appearance or position of your breasts, you may be interested in breast lift surgery. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that changes the position of your breasts, so they sit higher up on your chest. Breast lift surgery can also alter the shape and general appearance of your breasts, but it doesn’t change the size of your breasts.

At Maloney Plastic Surgery, Dr. Maloney has decades of experience in breast lift and augmentation in Tucson, AZ. He may recommend combining breast lift surgery with breast implants to enhance the size, shape, position, and symmetry of your breasts. Read on to learn everything you need to know about breast lift surgery before scheduling a consultation with Dr. Maloney and his team.

What is mastopexy and when is it recommended?

What is a Mastopexy Procedure?

A mastopexy is a breast lift surgery that addresses sagging breasts or breasts that have lost elasticity over time. During a breast lift procedure, Dr. Maloney will surgically lift, reshape, and tighten your breasts and address any asymmetry or other imperfections. We can also combine a breast lift with augmentation to enhance the size and shape of your breasts.

When and Why You Should Consider a Breast Lift

You should consider breast lift surgery if your breasts have begun to sag due to aging, pregnancy, weight gain or loss, or breastfeeding. A mastopexy can:

  • Make your breasts sit higher on your chest.
  • Improve breast symmetry.
  • Change the size and position of the areola.
  • Remove or reduce sagging skin.
  • Make your breasts perkier and rounder.
  • Tighten breast tissue and muscles.

What to Expect at a Consultation for a Breast Lift or Mastopexy

Before we schedule your breast lift surgery, we will have you come in for an in-depth consultation with Dr. Maloney and one of our clinical coordinators. We will discuss your needs, goals, and expectations and examine your breasts. We may take photos and make markings on your breasts to visualize the results of the procedure.

We can use 3D imaging to show you virtual results of your breast lift surgery and help you choose between different types of breast implants if you decide you want a breast lift and augmentation. We will discuss your health history, lifestyle, past surgeries and health issues, and your family health history to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. We will also answer any questions you have, take before and after photos, and take measurements of your breasts.

A member of our team will go over all surgical fees, financing options, and how to prepare for surgery. If you decide to proceed with a breast lift surgery, we will schedule a pre-operative appointment three weeks prior to your scheduled surgery. During this appointment, we will go over your surgical plan, review your content forms, give you prescriptions, and go over your pre- and post-surgical instructions.

One of our team members will take pre-operative photos, review all your surgical instructions, and give you a packet of information so when you leave this appointment you will have everything you need for surgery.

Meet Dr Maloney

Dr. Maloney is a Harvard trained, board certified plastic surgeon who returned to his home town of Tucson, AZ to open Maloney Plastic Surgery in 2002.

Preparing for Breast Lift Surgery

Before your surgery, we recommend that you quit smoking, as smoking can affect your surgical results and recovery time. We will also tell you to stop taking multivitamins, supplements, and blood thinners as these can increase bleeding during and after surgery.

If your surgery is scheduled before 10:00 am, you cannot eat or drink after midnight on the evening before your surgery. If your surgery is scheduled after 10:00 am, we will ask you to drink 16-24 oz of Gatorade four hours before your surgery. You cannot eat or drink anything else prior to surgery, however.

You should arrive without any makeup, lotions, deodorant, or jewelry. You should wear comfortable clothes that are easy to take on and off, like sweatpants and a zip up or button up top.

You will need a ride to and from your surgery, and you should have someone stay at home with you for the first 24 hours after your surgery.
